Nollaig na mBan (Ladies’ Day)

-
Name: Nollaig na mBan (pronounced null-ig na mon)
-
Date: January 6 (also known as the Feast of the Epiphany)
-
Country of origin: Ireland (especially strong traditions in the southwest, like County Cork and County Kerry)
Traditionally, Irish women bore the brunt of the holiday season’s cooking, cleaning, and family hosting. Nollaig na mBan was the day when women rested and men took over household duties.
Women would meet friends for tea, cakes, or a pint at the local pub, celebrate together, marking the end of the Christmas season, or take down holiday decorations, since January 6 is the last day of the traditional Christmas period in Ireland.
While some of the old customs have faded, the day is still celebrated! In modern times, groups of women gather for lunches, teas, or special events, and restaurants and tearooms host “Ladies’ Day” specials. It’s become a day to celebrate women’s friendships and contributions.
So gather your girlfriends and start a new tradition at Tea & Tidbits! Enjoy full afternoon tea and a day of fun and surprises with friends. $40 per person. Reservations are required.
